How Do I Know If I Should See a Therapist?

You might benefit from psychotherapy if you're experiencing:

  • Persistent sadness, anxiety, irritability, or stress

  • Difficulty coping with life transitions (e.g., divorce, loss, job change, etc.)

  • Obstacles in relationships or communication

  • Unhealthy habits or compulsive behaviors

  • Past trauma that still affects you

  • Feeling “stuck,” empty, or lacking direction

If your emotional well-being, relationships, or daily functioning are being impacted—therapy can help, even if you're not sure what's "wrong."

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.

How Is Therapy Different From Talking to a Friend?

The difference is a therapist is a extensively trained healthcare professional. A therapist can teach a patient new skills, gain different perspectives, and listen without any judgements. Therapy is also completely confidential and stays within the room.
